ONCE A TALKATIVE
I remember my years in Junior Secondary School (JSS) especially in the first year. My name was always part of names of talkatives. Thus, I received strokes during morning or evening assembly in school. Anytime my name was called I hear few seniors gossipping and saying "this Gyamwodie girl can talk paaaa her name is always part of talkatives". I was always given disparaging names which affected me psychologically as a child. Some of these names when I remember now anger begins to surge within me. Well, I guess I was born a talkative, because my mum and sisters sometimes passed comments like "Oh Dziedzorm efoa nu loo" to wit, "Oh Dziedzorm you can talk ". When I started discovering myself as a young girl, I noticed that I was or am not a talkative I am rather assertive, curious, inquisitve, an epistemophile, a philomath, a pantomath and many more.Obviously, all these qualities of a person requires talking. I am an individual who does not just listen to people when they talk, I would like to enquire further, probe to have an in depth of every information given at a particular time. Thanks to my sanguine nature, I am always lively and bubbly around people. I love to engage, I tell stories and I always have stories to tell. I inspire, encourage, motivate people around me, this is what I am made of.
I am uncomfortable around people who approach me with scanty information, if you do not have details on an information, it is better not to share at all, because I will ask further questions when all do not add up. In discovery of these qualities, I made peace with myself first and repudiated any negative perception people had about me in relation to being expressive. I also have a high pitched voice, anytime I try to whisper, oh that always turns out to be an announcement. So here I am with a high pitched voice and the love for expressing oneself, wow!! God is a designer init?. I also love speaking in public thanks to Bright Future Club (BFC) for this training.
As the days passed by, I noticed that all these qualities or "weakness" as others saw it could be polished, packaged and presented to the world as a gift like how Jesus Christ was gifted to us Christians.
The love of learning French also creeped in, I guess my name was going into the Guiness World book of Records for trying to practice French and becoming perfect by too much talking, hahaha!! A taciturn, reticent or reserved person cannot learn a new language. Language learning requires talking, reading, listening and writing. I must say French revived my desire to talk more during my university days, one must talk, make mistakes and then must be corrected. That was the rule of the game. And I loved this rule because it came naturally, there was no struggle. My desire for public speaking was nurtured from church, polished in the classroom and voilà!! I decided to turn this so called "weakness" into something beautiful since it is a gift from God.

If only parents and teachers could recognize early that children they refer to as talkative are just being curious or inquisitive it would make a huge difference in how these children are nurtured…..

"This girl can talk papa" haha very good piece. I like how you drew reference from how your inquisitive nature as a child played a role in what you've become today 👏. Bravo

It has become common practice, especially among our Gen Z group, to limit themselves to information and data-aided technology. Having conversations with a lot of young people contemporarily is becoming vexatious. Irrespective of the fact that some young ones are making it a deal to read and read widely, a large majority of them will just stick to “oh lemme ask AI, or lemme google it” The conversations become boring and mostly one-sided. So yes, I agree with you that” IF YOU DO NOT HAVE DETAILS OF AM INFORMATION, IT IS BETTER NOT TO SHARE IT AT ALL”
