How would you feel about being denied a juicy position just because you cannot express yourself in a foreign language? Did you know that language is a powerful tool? As a former linguistics student, I have learnt the advantages of speaking another language apart from one’s mother tongue. Did you know that if you are applying for a job with any international organization such as the UN, AU, EU etc., if you can speak English and French, you already have 3 points for free in your quiver? If you can speak a third additional language namely Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Swahili etc., wow that’s a sweet 5 points before the start of the interview (oral and written). Oh yeah! Do you now believe that language is a powerful tool, no wonder God Almighty had to distort the plans of the people who were building the tower of Babel by separating them with different languages.
